Many farmers in Ca Mau province have become richer
by breeding crocodiles, earning each year hundred
of millions of Vietnamese dong.
Crocodiles breeding has been seen as a new trade
to help eliminate poverty and hunger. More than
100 households in Cau Mau are now breeding over
2,000 crocodiles, as a result.
Crocodiles are easy to breed, gaining about 10
kilogrammes a year and selling for three million
to four million Vietnamese dong each when reaching
the age of two.
Four Vietnamese businesses have been approved
by CITES to export crocodiles, creating new opportunities
for breeders.
