An insect control product made from insect sex pheromones
will be widely used in the safe production of vegetables
by the end of this year. The pheromone product will register
for its trademark early next year, announced the Agriculture
and Rural Development Ministry.
The product was developed by the Viet Nam-China Scientific
and Technological Cooperation Programme. They researched
insect sex pheromones and their applications.
Under the project, launched in January of 2002, pheromones
have been applied to 26.5 ha of vegetables in Ha Noi and
northern provinces, as well as on 146 ha of litchis in
Bac Giang province to kill borer and fruit fly species.
The project has produced 7,900 pheromone baits to kill
vegetable insect species in the ministry's flora protection
institute laboratory.
